Detroit
Public Schools Radio Class — "Brady Jamzz"
For the past eight years, SIT staffers have taught radio broadcasting
at Brady Elementary School in Detroit. Emphasis is placed on speaking
standard American English. The students produce "Brady Jamzz,"
a weekly radio show. The hard work performed by these inner-city
students has resulted in a quality radio show.
Alzheimer's
Project
SIT staffers are presently involved in a long-range
study to determine the effects of Big Band music on
Alzheimer's patients. It is truly amazing to watch the
patients as their toes start tapping while some even
begin singing the songs of their era. SIT's goal is
to produce music CDs that can be distributed without
charge to Alzheimer's care facilities. Many nursing
homes and hospitals now pipe the weekly SIT shows into
their buildings each week.
SIT
has developed a special personal appearance show that
includes snippets of great Big Band music and unusual
facts of that era, and regularly entertains residents
of senior citizen centers, nursing homes, and Alzheimer's
care facilities. |
