Somewhere in Time radio programs are devoted
to nostalgic memories of the past. The SIT show lineup
consists of three distinct memory-filled shows featuring:
- Big
Bands, Sweet bands, and combos
- Theatre
Pipe Organs
- Make
Believe Ballroom — Bands of today playing the
music of yesterday (Swing, etc.)
Big
Band Memories
Big Bands are the mainstay of these programs, which are sprinkled
with old commercials and recollections of the "good old days."
Think about how exciting it was to listen to Miller, Dorsey, Shaw,
Callaway, Ellington, Basie, Jurgens, Vallee, Weems, and even Tiny
Hill. Benny had his new style of music called "swing"
and was on every Saturday night...
If
you can recall the famous "radio wires" from
the Glen Island Casino, the Roseland Ballroom, the Aragon,
or the Trianon, you'll feel right at home with these
shows.
Theatre
Pipe Organ Shows
Before the advent of "talkies," silent movies
were accompanied by a giant Wurlitzer or Barton pipe
organ. The organist not only played before and after
the show, but added excitement to the movie with special
music and effects.
Today,
many of these mighty theatre pipe organs have been restored
and can be heard in their original glory. This program
is produced in cooperation with the Motor City Theatre
Organ Society and the Detroit Theatre Organ Society.
If
you can recall the thrill of hearing the roar of these
mighty instruments, this one-hour show is for you. This
SIT program is the only regularly scheduled Theatre
Pipe Organ radio show in the United States!
Make
Believe Ballroom
This one-hour show features the bands of today playing
the music of yesterday. The program is mostly music,
giving the listener the thrill of actually being in
the ballroom. Many of the bands are from California
and enjoy providing Swing music.
For
non-stop dancing music, Make Believe Ballroom is for you! Hosted
by Alison Harris and Heather Novak. |
